Itinerary

Day 1: Shimla (7467 ft) to Kalpa (9711 ft). Overnight in Kalpa

Our driver will pick you up in Shimla. Get ready for a beautiful drive of 250 km to Kalpa via Rampur & Reckong Peo. We drive down from Shimla and cross over to the other side of the river, and follow the Hindustan – Tibet road to Reckong Peo, the principle township in Kinnaur. Reckong Peo is considered to be the land of Gods and is a splendid beauty showcased by the Himalayas. The town is serene and is famous for its apple orchards. It is inhabited by Kinnauri people and has a diverse culture even in today’s modern era. From Peo, a climb brings us to the beautiful village of Kalpa, nestled amongst apple orchards and Chilgoza pine trees. Kalpa and a couple of villages around it such as Chini and Roghi, provide some of the most spectacular views of the Kinaaur Kailash range across the valley. We will spend the night at Homestay and indulge in some local food.
Day 2: Kalpa (9711 ft) to Tabo (10760 ft) via Nako (12000 ft) & Gui. Overnight in Tabo

Start early from Kalpa. The journey to Nako is around 100 km and takes approximately 3-4 hours, depending on road conditions. Enjoy the scenic views of the Sutlej River and the dramatic landscapes of the Kinnaur Valley. Arrive in Nako by around 11:00 AM. Spend some time exploring Nako village, visit the Nako Lake, and explore the ancient Nako Monastery. Enjoy a peaceful lunch at a local eatery. Continue your journey towards Tabo, stopping briefly at Gui village to see the famous mummy of a Buddhist monk. Arrive in Tabo by late afternoon or early evening. Check into your accommodation and relax. In the evening, visit the Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest and most significant monasteries in the region. Explore the monastery complex and soak in the serene atmosphere.
Day 3: Tabo (10760ft) to Kaza (12470 ft) via Dhankar (12700 ft). Overnight in Kaza

Start your day early in Tabo. The distance between Tabo and Dhankar is approximately 32 km and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions. Arrive at Dhankar, which is perched at an altitude of 12,700 feet. Visit the ancient Dhankar Monastery, known for its spectacular location and historical significance. Explore the monastery and, if time allows, hike up to Dhankar Lake for breathtaking views. (Note: this is a minimum 5 km, 2-hour hike.)

Dhankar is uniquely situated at the confluence of the Pin River and the Spiti River. The merging of these two rivers against the backdrop of the stark, arid mountains is a sight to behold, adding to the dramatic beauty of the region.

After spending time in Dhankar, continue your journey to Kaza.
Day 4: Day trip to Langza (14500 ft), Koumik (15027 ft) & Hikkim (14000 ft). Overnight in Kaza

Begin your day early in Kaza, The road to Langza offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Take your time to soak in the beauty of the landscape as you make your way to this charming village. Upon reaching Langza, you’ll be greeted by the magnificent sight of the towering Chau Chau Kang Nilda peak. Spend some time exploring the village, known for its abundance of marine fossils. You can engage in fossil hunting or simply admire the ancient relics scattered around the area. Visit the prominent Buddha statue overlooking the valley, a symbol of peace and tranquility.

Next, continue your journey to Koumik . The drive from Langza to Koumik takes you through rugged terrain, offering glimpses of Spiti’s raw and untouched beauty. Visit the Koumik monastery.

From here, make your way to Hikkim, home to the world’s highest post office. Located at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, Hikkim offers stunning vistas of the Himalayan landscape. Send a postcard from the world’s highest post office as a unique souvenir of your Spiti adventure.

After a day of exploration, return to Kaza for an overnight stay.
Day 5: Day trip to Key Monastery (13700 ft), Kibber (14200ft) & Chicham (13800ft). Overnight in Kaza

Begin your journey with a visit to Key Monastery. This ancient Tibetan Buddhist monastery, perched atop a hill, offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, along with captivating architecture and vibrant murals.
Continue your expedition to Kibber, one of the highest inhabited villages in the world,. Wander through its quaint lanes, interact with locals, and marvel at the traditional stone houses set against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks.
Next, venture to Chicham Bridge, suspended at a dizzying height of about 13,800 feet above the Spiti River gorge. Traverse this awe-inspiring suspension bridge, experiencing the thrill of crossing one of the highest bridges in Asia while soaking in the breathtaking vistas of the rugged terrain.
As the day comes to a close, return to Kaza.
Day 6: Kaza (12500 ft) to Chandratal (14100ft) via Khunzum La (15000 ft). Overnight in Chandratal

Embark on your journey from Kaza towards Chandratal, the “Moon Lake,” cradled amidst the Himalayas. As you ascend Khunzum La at 15,000 ft, relish the panoramic views of the majestic Bara Sigri Glacier. Notably, Khunzum La serves as a vital passageway, connecting the remote Spiti Valley to the neighboring Lahaul region. Take in the significance of this high-altitude route as you traverse towards Chandratal. pon arrival, settle into your tents and enjoy the serene ambiance. ake time to explore the area around the lake, soaking in Chandratal’s tranquil beauty.
Day 7: Chandratal to Manali drop via Atal Tunnel. Overnight in Manali

Bid adieu to the serene shores of Chandratal as you embark on the arduous route towards Manali. The path ahead is rugged and tough, characterized by winding mountain roads & treacherous terrain. our route takes you through the recently inaugurated Atal Tunnel, an engineering marvel that cuts through the Pir Panjal range, significantly reducing travel time between Manali and the Lahaul Valley. As you drive through this tunnel, spanning approximately 9.02 kilometers, marvel at the ingenuity of its construction and the convenience it offers to travelers.

We drop you at Manali, where you can spend the evening at the vibrant Mall Road.

Note: No dinner is included tonight as we encourage you to try the various options available at Mall Road.
Day 8: Depart from Manali
