Itinerary

Day 1: Land in Colombo. Transfer to Kandy. Check in to your hotel and freshen up. Visit Kandy Lake. Overnight in Kandy

Arrival in Colombo: After landing at Bandaranaike International Airport, your driver will transfer you to Kandy, a 3-4 hour scenic drive through small towns and lush landscapes.

Check-in at your hotel in Kandy: After reaching Kandy, check in to your hotel and take some time to freshen up and relax after your journey.

Visit Kandy Lake: Located at the heart of Kandy, this artificial lake is a serene and peaceful spot. Take a leisurely walk around the lake’s perimeter, enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, and get your first glimpse of Kandy’s natural beauty.

Overnight in Kandy: End the day with a quiet evening in Kandy. Depending on your energy levels, you could either relax at your hotel or explore the local restaurants for some vegetarian Sri Lankan dishes like rice and curry or roti.
Day 2: Kandy Sightseeing. Visit Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), the Royal Botanical Gardens and Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue. In the evening, you can visit a cultural show in Kandy. Overnight in Kandy
Morning at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa): Begin your day by visiting the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of Sri Lanka’s most important religious sites. The temple, believed to house one of Buddha’s teeth, is not only an important pilgrimage site but also an architectural marvel. Observe the daily rituals and explore the intricate details of the temple.

Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya: Located just outside of Kandy, these gardens are famous for their vast collection of orchids, spices, and medicinal plants. The gardens cover over 147 acres, and you’ll find impressive avenues of palms, a massive Javan fig tree, and a range of exotic flora.

Lunch in Kandy: Enjoy a vegetarian meal at one of the local restaurants or cafés. Sri Lankan curries, hoppers, and sambols are delicious vegetarian-friendly options.

Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue: In the afternoon, head to this towering Buddha statue, located on a hill overlooking Kandy. The views of the city and surrounding mountains from the statue’s base are magnificent, especially during sunset.

Optional Cultural Show in Kandy: If you’re interested, you can end your evening with a traditional Kandyan Cultural Show. The performance features traditional Kandyan dance and music, including vibrant costumes and drumming that are representative of Sri Lankan culture.
Day 3: Take the scenic 7 hr train ride from Kandy to Ella. Visit Ella bridge and Ravana Waterfalls. Overnight in Ella

Early Morning: Board the train from Kandy to Ella. This 7-hour journey is one of the most scenic in the world, passing through lush tea plantations, mist-covered hills, and beautiful valleys. The journey itself is an experience, offering endless opportunities for photos and a chance to observe rural life in the highlands.

Arrival in Ella: After arriving in the charming hill station of Ella, check in to your hotel or guesthouse.

Visit Nine Arches Bridge: In the afternoon, visit the famous Nine Arches Bridge, a colonial-era railway bridge that’s one of the most iconic spots in Sri Lanka. The bridge is surrounded by dense jungle and tea plantations. You can either walk through the plantations to reach the bridge or take a tuk-tuk. It’s a perfect spot for photography, especially if you catch a train crossing the bridge.

Ravana Waterfalls: After visiting the bridge, head to Ravana Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. The falls are named after the legendary king Ravana from the Ramayana and are surrounded by lush greenery. You can relax by the waterfall, enjoy the scenery, or even take a quick dip.

Evening in Ella: Explore Ella’s laid-back atmosphere in the evening by visiting one of the many cafés or restaurants in town. Many places serve a variety of vegetarian options, including Sri Lankan and international dishes.

Day 4: Travel from Ella to Tissamaharama (Yala National Park). Evening safari at Yala National Park. Overnight in Tissamaharama

Morning in Ella: After breakfast, take in the last bits of Ella’s scenic beauty and then prepare for the drive to Tissamaharama, which takes approximately 3-4 hours.

Travel to Tissamaharama: The drive to Tissamaharama will take you through small villages and rolling countryside. Once you arrive, check in to your hotel and take some time to relax before the evening safari.

Evening Safari at Yala National Park: Yala National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife reserves, known for its high concentration of leopards. During your safari, you can also spot elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, spotted deer, and a variety of bird species. The park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, and the open-air safari jeeps provide excellent views of the park’s diverse terrain.

Overnight in Tissamaharama.
Day 5: Tissamaharama ( Yala National Park) to Mirissa. Explore the nearby coconut palm plantations or take a short trip to the picturesque Parrot Rock. Leisure evening a Mirissa beach. Overnight in Mirissa

Morning: After breakfast, set off for the beach town of Mirissa (approx. 2-3 hours by car). The drive takes you through rural landscapes, passing small villages and farmlands.

Check-in at your hotel in Mirissa: Upon arrival, check in to your beachside accommodation and relax for a while.

Coconut Tree Hill and Parrot Rock: In the afternoon, visit Coconut Tree Hill, a famous spot in Mirissa known for its picturesque palm trees overlooking the ocean. It’s a great place to take photos and soak in the views. You can also visit Parrot Rock, a small rock formation just off the main beach that provides panoramic views of Mirissa Bay.

Leisure evening at Mirissa Beach: Spend the evening at leisure, relaxing on Mirissa’s golden sands. You can watch the sunset, enjoy a drink at a beach café, or simply unwind by the waves.

Day 6: Early morning whale watching tour at Mirissa (Optional). Evening at leisure at Mirissa beach OR visit the Secret beach and the Jungle beach. Overnight in Mirissa

Optional Whale Watching Tour: If you’re up for an early morning adventure, you can join a whale watching tour that departs at dawn. Mirissa is famous for being one of the best places in the world to spot blue whales, along with dolphins and other marine life. The tour lasts around 4-5 hours and offers a chance to see these magnificent creatures up close.

Relax at Mirissa Beach: After the tour, you can spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach, enjoying the warm sun and calm waters.

Visit Secret Beach and Jungle Beach: For a more secluded experience, visit Secret Beach, a hidden gem near Mirissa, or head to Jungle Beach, located close to Unawatuna. Both beaches are quieter and offer serene surroundings away from the crowds.

Evening at Leisure: Unwind with dinner at one of Mirissa’s beachside restaurants, where you can enjoy fresh, local vegetarian meals.

Day 7: Mirissa to Colombo airport drop. En route visit Galle Fort and Galle Lighthouse. Potential stop at the stilt fisherman or the serene Koggala Lake.

Journey from Mirissa to Colombo airport, you’ll get to experience a mix of Sri Lanka’s coastal beauty and historical landmarks. The day begins with a visit to Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you can explore its centuries-old walls, cobbled streets, and colonial architecture. Within the fort, don’t miss Galle Lighthouse, standing tall against the backdrop of the azure Indian Ocean. Its peaceful surroundings and sweeping ocean views make it an iconic spot for photos.

As you continue your drive, you could make a brief stop to witness the famous stilt fishermen in action. Balancing on slender poles planted in the water, they offer a glimpse into one of Sri Lanka’s unique fishing traditions. If you’re more in the mood for tranquility, Koggala Lake is another great option. The lake, with its small islands and lush surroundings, offers a serene escape. You might even spot some wildlife or visit one of the Buddhist temples located on the islands.

By evening, you’ll arrive at Colombo Airport, wrapping up a day filled with both cultural and scenic experiences.
